World’s Best Oatmeal Bread for Toast

My family loves this oatmeal toast bread. It has a wonderful texture, comforting flavors and it makes your home smell great! Carve thick slices and then toast until they are golden brown and crispy on both sides. Take a bite! The bread crunches delightfully as your teeth sink into it, revealing tasty hints of oats, molasses and honey as your tongue dives into its soft and steamy center. You’ll be tempted to gobble it up quickly, but don’t. Take your time and enjoy every bite!

Mix the following in a 1 quart pan on the stove:

2 cups of boiling water
3 Tablespoons of milk
1 cup of Quaker Oats
2 tablespoons of Molasses
1/4 cup of honey
2 teaspoons of salt
1 tablespoon of margarine or butter

Remove from heat and stir. Let cool and add: 1 egg (I use organic eggs from cage free chickens).

In a separate small bowl add: 1/2 cup luke warm water 2 packs of dry yeast 1 tablespoon sugar Let the yeast mixture bubble up and rise.

In a large metal bowl, combine the above ingredients, then slowly add 4 1/2 cups of flour while stirring. Knead the dough when it becomes too stiff to stir. Add additional flour until dough is no longer wet.

Cover dough with a clean hand towel and let it rise to double. Divide the dough into two loaves and place in greased floured bread pans. Let dough rise again.

Bake at 350 degrees for 18 to 25 minutes until the tops of the loaves are a light golden brown. Remove baked bread loaves from the pans and let them cool.

Carve generous slices from the loaf with a bread knife (2 cm or 3/4 inch wide). Toast until the sides are crisp and lightly golden. This bread is awesome with homemade strawberry freezer jam. Enjoy!
