Hot and Yummy Apple Pie

If you love apple pie, prepare your tastebuds for an amazing pie-tacular treat, straight out of my mother's heavily guarded recipe vault, which lies within an undisclosed bunker two miles beneath the Rocky Mountains.

WARNING: Do not treat your friends to this pie if you are not prepared to have them move into your house and never leave.

And now for the secret recipe:

PIE CRUST:

Go to the grocery store and buy a frozen pie crust. I like to use the 9 inch deep dish Pet-Ritz crust by Pillsbury, but you can use your favorite brand or make your own (contact me and I'll send you a recipe for pie crust).

PIE FILLING:

• 5 - 6 Cups of sliced McIntosh apples ( 7 medium apples)

• 1 cup of sugar

• 1/4 cup of flour

• 1 tsp. cinnamon

Peel the apples and slice them with an apple slicer. Place the apples in a large bowl. Mix the sugar, flour and cinnamon in a smaller bowl and then pour them over the apple slices.

Stir the apples until they are uniformly covered by the dry mixture.

CRUMB TOPPING:

• 1 stick of margarine (1/2 cup) cut into small pieces

• 1/2 cup flour

• 1/2 cup sugar

Mix the dry ingredients together and cut the margarine into them with a pastry blender.

Place the apples into the pie crust. The apples will be higher than the edge of the crust. Place narrow strips of aluminum foil around the edge of the crust to protect it from over cooking. Uniformly sprinkle the crumb topping over the apples.

Bake at 400 degrees for 45 - 50 minutes, 'till the topping is golden and the filling is bubbly.

Pull the pie from the oven and let it sit for about five minutes. Serve it hot with vanilla ice cream and enjoy the sounds of your happy guests as they praise your creation!
